A vibrant new student commons transforming an underused space into a hub for learning, collaboration, and campus life. At Simon Fraser University’s Burnaby campus, Blusson Hall was reimagined with a modern Student Commons for the Faculty of Health Sciences.
The renovation converted an underutilized section of Level 10000 into presentation zones, study spaces, breakout rooms, and social areas designed to foster engagement and community-building. The design supports flexible teaching formats, informal gatherings, and a more connected student experience within one of SFU’s core academic buildings. WEE provided the complete electrical design for the renovation, including new lighting systems, power distribution, and full life-safety integration. Our team also coordinated electrical interfaces for IT and AV infrastructure to support technology-enabled study and presentation environments.

The result is a dynamic, adaptable academic space where modern systems and thoughtful design work together to enhance daily student life. A technology-forward student commons that strengthens Blusson Hall’s role as a centre for learning, connection, and community on campus.
